The town of Killingly is located in the northeast corner of Connecticut in Windham County and shares a border with Rhode Island. Settled in 1700 and incorporated in 1708, the town began as several mill villages sited on its abundant waterways, including the Five-Mile and Quinebaug Rivers. In the early half of the 19th century, Killingly was the largest producer of cotton goods in Connecticut, and in the early 20th century the town was known as the curtain capital of the world. Today, many of Killingly’s early mill villages continue to be lively communities as does its Borough of Danielson, which contains two large historic districts.
