Doing History | Connecticut History | a CTHumanities Project

America 250 | CT Theme: Doing History

History is an interpretation of the past shaped by the interests, attitudes, and contexts of the present. To produce history, we research and analyze different types sources such as documents, newspapers, censuses, photographs, art, material culture, oral histories, archaeological evidence, and much more. Engaging with the process of doing history helps us critically question and understand past events, places, phenomena, and people.

Questions to Think About:

  • Who creates the histories of Connecticut?
  • How do we share the histories of Connecticut through museums, libraries, community groups, digital projects, and oral tradition?

While there are many stories from Connecticut’s history that fall within the “Doing History” theme, below are a few to get you started.
