About

Your Home For Stories About Connecticut

People, Traditions, Innovations, & Events making up the rich history of the Nutmeg State

ConnecticutHistory.org, a project of Connecticut Humanities, is a state public history resource written for a diverse set of readers, ranging from students to educators to history enthusiasts. We provide engaging, well-researched stories about Connecticut history that link to reliable primary and interpretive resources. Our goal is to encourage readers to engage with the institutions, archives, museums, and communities that hold and interpret the materials that explore the diversity of Connecticut’s history.

Connect to Connecticut’s history by exploring stories by town, topic, era, or person.

History of the Project

CT Humanities started planning for a state digital encyclopedia in 2000 and 2001. The project was developed in partnership with the University of Connecticut Digital Media Center, University of Connecticut Libraries, and the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media at George Mason University. Initially designed as a project for scholarly academics by scholarly academics, it gradually shifted into more of a public history model. In 2012, CT Humanities launched ConnecticutHistory.org.

Intended to be a dynamic, multi-layered digital history resource, ConnecticutHistory.org publishes history articles and other content about the rich and diverse history of Connecticut. As the field of history is always a work in progress, ConnecticutHistory.org is constantly expanding and updating its content.

In Memory of Bruce Fraser

ConnecticutHistory.org is dedicated to Bruce Fraser whose vision, motivation, and love of Connecticut history made this project possible.

Support

ConnecticutHistory.org has been made possible in part by support from the State of Connecticut and major grants from the US Department of Education Fund for the Improvement of Education and the National Endowment for the Humanities: Because Democracy Demands Wisdom.
